Coordination of Preparations for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) in East Nusa Tenggara Province

The East Nusa Tenggara Statistics Agency (BPS) held a Coordination of Preparations for the 2026 Economic Census on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Kristal Ballroom at the Hotel Kupang. The event was opened by the Governor's Expert Staff for Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Linus Lusi, S.Pd., M.Pd., who emphasized that SE2026 is mandated by law and the official data source for regional development planning. The provincial government also expressed its full support and invited all business actors, associations, regional government agencies (OPD), and communities to actively participate.

The Head of BPS NTT Province, Ms. Matamira Bangngu Kale, S.Si., M.Si., emphasized that MSMEs are the backbone of NTT's economy—99.45% of business units in the SE2016 are MSMEs—thus the quality of the census data is crucial for determining policy direction. She also ensured that the confidentiality of respondent information is guaranteed by law and will only be used for statistical purposes.

The event featured a panel discussion with Ms. Fransina Welhelmina Ballo, SE., ME. (Cendana University), who presented the current economic conditions and the importance of data related to business structure, the digital economy, and the green-blue economy. The second speaker, Mr. Exal Pelopolin (Bapperida), highlighted strategic long-term development issues, including poverty, regional inequality, human resource quality, disaster risk, and fiscal independence. The 2026 Economic Census data is considered crucial for the development of macro indicators and regional priority planning, ranging from tourism, the creative economy, village MSMEs, to sustainable infrastructure.

The discussion was conducive and emphasized the importance of cross-stakeholder collaboration in utilizing the 2026 data. The event concluded with the signing of a joint commitment between the NTT Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS) and regional government agencies (OPD), business actors, and associations to ensure the success of the 2026 Economic Census as a foundation for more accurate and sustainable NTT economic development planning.
