Happy International Literacy Day

September 8, 2025 | Other Activities

International Literacy Day has been celebrated annually on September 8 since 1967 to remind policymakers, practitioners, and the public of the importance of literacy in realizing a more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society.

In 2025, the theme for International Literacy Day, designated by UNESCO, is "Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era," emphasizing that digitalization has transformed the way people learn, live, work, and socialize, both positively and negatively. Literacy in the digital age is not just about reading and writing on paper. Literacy now means the ability to access, understand, evaluate, create, and interact with digital information safely, critically, and appropriately.
